We contributed to the app that turns a photo of a paper target into a scored result.
From shot to result
A target that scores itself
Scroll and the hits appear, each step landing closer to the centre.
A paper target through the camera
A shot target is photographed with the phone. No copying into a notebook, no measuring with callipers. The input is a photo.
Scored on the spot
The app recognises the hits and scores them immediately. A shooter sees the result the moment they take the target down, not that evening while transcribing.
A curve instead of a feeling
Results are stored and assembled into graphs of progress over time, together with corrections for improving accuracy. Global leaderboards sit alongside, for comparing against shooters in other countries.
Context
Surehand, “My Shooting App”, is built for the ISSF Olympic discipline: 10 metre air pistol and air rifle. It is developed by Trigama International s.r.o. with a specialised team of six. The idea comes from Radim Novák, a former Czech sport shooter, a World Cup winner, European champion and an Olympian at Sydney 2000. We mention that as the app's origin, not as something we achieved. The app scans paper targets, scores them immediately, keeps graphs of performance over time and offers corrections for improving accuracy; global leaderboards allow comparison with shooters worldwide. An international community of shooters, coaches and judges uses it.
Our role
We contributed to the app as part of a specialised team, not as a standalone supplier.
Technical approach
The app is built on React Native with TypeScript. Technically everything rests on one thing: how accurately a scanned target is read. The photo is taken in varying light, at an angle and with whatever camera the phone has, and the hit recognition still has to be right. A tenth of a point decides the ten metre discipline, so the tolerance for error is very small.
Where we are today
The app is available for iOS on the App Store. The Android version is still marked as in preparation on the product site.
