We contributed to the front end of the Czech Conrad shop, with a catalogue of three quarters of a million items.

From click to box

Four steps, each one quicker

Scroll and the pace picks up along with the process. Which is the whole point of this shop.

Search

Seven hundred and fifty thousand items

The conrad.cz catalogue holds 750,000 products for retail and wholesale alike. What matters is not that something is in there. It is finding it. Filtering across categories is the core of the product here, not a garnish.

Order

Processed within twenty minutes

Basket and checkout. An order from the shop is processed within twenty minutes, which is a requirement placed on the warehouse, not a promise in the footer.

Packing

Electronics want a different box

Sensitive components are packed with protection against static. A step the customer never sees, and the one that decides whether the goods arrive working.

Delivery

Three quarters by the next day

75% of orders placed before noon are delivered by the second working day. The whole chain before it exists for that number.

Context

conrad.cz is the Czech online shop, carrying 750,000 products for retail and wholesale customers alike. An order from the shop is processed within 20 minutes and 75% of orders placed before noon arrive by the second working day. Behind the Czech arm stands Conrad Electronic SE, a German company founded in 1923 by Max Conrad, still family-run and now in its fourth generation, based in Hirschau with a distribution centre in Wernberg. It sells its own brands such as VOLTCRAFT and TOOLCRAFT alongside global names like Fluke and Tektronix. We mention that as background for the scale the product runs at. Our work was on the Czech shop.

Our role

We contributed to the front end as part of the team through ACTUM Digital, not as a standalone supplier.

Technical approach

The front end is built on React. At this catalogue size the technical job differs from an ordinary shop: a list of three quarters of a million items cannot be rendered or fetched at once, so what decides everything is how it filters, how it pages, and how much of it reaches the client at all. The other half of the work is legibility. A customer hunting a specific component needs to read parameters off a result, not browse pictures.

Where we are today

conrad.cz is live.
